Description

The Sony α7C II is a compact full-frame mirrorless interchangeable‑lens camera body that combines portability with advanced stills and video performance. It features a 33.0 effective megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS sensor, the BIONZ XR™ processing engine and an AI processing unit for improved subject recognition, enabling 4K 60p/50p movie recording, high-resolution 7008×4672 stills and a wide native ISO range up to 204800. The camera is designed for hybrid shooters who need a lightweight solution without compromising image quality, autofocus performance or stabilisation.

Advantages

The α7C II offers high image quality from its 33 MP full-frame sensor and advanced noise reduction with a reported 15‑stop dynamic range, plus in‑camera features such as S‑Cinetone, selectable RAW sizes and 10‑bit 4:2:2 video encoding. The upgraded BIONZ XR engine and AI processing unit deliver faster processing, more accurate subject recognition (including humans, animals, birds and vehicles) and improved AF performance with up to 759 phase‑detection points covering about 94% of the frame. Built‑in 5‑axis stabilisation with an Active Mode and up to 7.0‑step compensation supports handheld stills and smooth movie capture. A 3.0″ vari‑angle touchscreen, 2.36M‑dot EVF, durable magnesium alloy chassis and dust/moisture resistance make the body practical for demanding use.

How to use

Attach a compatible E‑mount lens and power the camera on. Use the Still/Movie/S&Q dial to choose the shooting mode and adjust exposure settings via the mode dial and dedicated controls. For movies, select the desired codec and frame rate (up to 4K 60p/50p) and enable 10‑bit 4:2:2 or S‑Log3 if required for grading. Use the vari‑angle touchscreen to frame low or high angles and swipe to access the Fn menu or touch controls. For tracking subjects, half‑press the shutter or start movie recording with Auto Framing enabled to allow the AI processing unit to detect and follow the subject. Use Active Mode stabilisation when shooting handheld video and combine with lenses that have optical stabilization for best results.

Usage recommendations

For hybrid shoots, balance stills and video settings by preconfiguring Fn menu items for quick access (e.g., ISO, white balance, AF area, Creative Look). When planning low‑light work, use appropriate lenses (wide aperture) and enable Focus Priority or higher ISO while monitoring noise. For colour‑critical video, record with S‑Log3 and use LUT preview on the monitor to validate exposure and skin tones during capture.
